Weekly Pattern

 Today's pattern comes a bit late...

Last week was extremely busy, as the second week of March s usually is for us, since our group is one of the very few that does 1840-ies reenactment, and maybe one, who represents not the army, but civilians. I will tell you more about it, once we processed the pictures.

Anyhow, this post is about patterns (for now knitting patterns that is, but I might branch out to sewing patterns in time, but that remains to be seen at the moment).

For today's pattern, once again, I chose something from the Ravelry Hot Right Now, and it is the

Though I have not knit many shawls lately, I really love them, and this one has a few things going for.

The pattern is Mosaic knitting, which I have not done in ages (at least two or three decades, do I did back in my teenage years), and it is something that I have on my must-try-it-again list. 

We know I love colorful pieces, and colorful knits, and mosaic knitting looks spectacular, while seems to be one step easier than stranded knitting.

Also, reading the pattern page and looking through the finished objects, it would be an ideal contender for stashbusting projects (if you have some unicolored or semi-unicolored yarns to burn off your stash).

If I would be on the look out for a colorful shawl, this would definetly be a contender.

What the Friday?

 For a while this will be the last UFO what the Friday... I still have some odd unfinished objects around the house, but they are usually boring socks, that does not really show up much on pictures...

This was a crocheted dress, I found on Pinterest, with a LOT of pictures, and as you can see, I got pretty far with it. Its future is still undecided.

And with this, I will finish this series of UFOs, but the What The Friday series will not stop, but change...

After a long thinking and debating with myself, I decided, that  this posts will be about what the friday moments of "weird" (or rather interesting) stuff I find on E-bay, Facebook Marketplace, and or similar - even Hungarian- sites.

 That is how much posts I've made this year, which is the highest number in the last 14 years, I've only written more than this in a whole year in the years I started blogging. 

Adding to it the slightly more than a month of posting every day at the end of last year, this makes about a 100 days of posting almost every day, and I think it is a time to a) celebrate, and b) think about the next months.

When I started, last november, one of the reasosns I did it, because I kind of envy a certain blog that posts every day, mostly outfit-of-the-day type of posts, and wondered, if I would able to do this, and here I proved, that I can, even if there are moments I feel I just run out of things to say, and -most of the time- I rather enjoy this daily posting.

However...

Now, spring is coming and reenactor's season is beginning, and there will be days and weekends, sometimes even a whole week, when I will not be at my computer, and I already established, that I am not willing to post from my telephone, and I might not be able to prepare timed posts. 

Of course, I continiously working on something, but I am not sure, looking at how exciting can be the same pair of historical stocking grows day by day...

So there will be more missing days, days without posts. On the other hand, since you did express some interest in our reenacting/historical interpreting endeavors, there will be posts with more pictures of them. Also, if you are interested, I will write about reenacting more.

Furthermore, you can see, that the weekly serieses will change somewhat, like the weekly strong opinion will talk not only about knitting, but other things, like fashion, and more general topics, and the what the friyday series will change as well, I will write about that tomorrow.

I always read each and every comment, and if there is a question I take a note, and, even if not right away, but when I thought it through and/or managed to get proper pictures to illustrate I will answer,a s I did with the blocking and there is a haircare post in the work.

Weekly SO

 Yarn bowls

Yes, I know some of those look pretty. SOME. (I've also seen some pretty ugly ones too).

But are they necessary? No. I even question if they are useful at all.

I learned to would centerpull balls, I have a yarn winder, that also winds centerpull balls, but even from factory-balls and skeins I pick the center strand, so my yarn usually stays put, unless I need to change them (sometimes, when I knit colored stuff, I do need to change balls), but a yarnbowl would not be helpful even then. 

So, I simply do not understand the fuss about them, I do not have them, nor do I plan getting them.

P.S: this week I had rather hard time thinking up a topic for the strong opinion, and I thought, what if I ask you, do you have strong opinion, or do you have a topic you would like to know my opinion about it? If so, please, do not hesitate to comment. 

SC (Short Comment)

Knitting knee high historical stockings from pure wool yarn. In BLACK.

I would say I hate it, and it is not easy to see, but the yarn has an interesting spin/ply, giving it a pearly appearance, so I kinda like it.

Weekly pattern

 You waited for it, you asked for it, and some said, that I started this series to be able to say this... LOL, that might even be right. 

Today's pattern is....

The Sophie scarf.

I'll put here, what I said about it in a knitting group, where someone brought it up...

Personally, it drives me up the wall (generally all Petite Knits stuff does that). Sorry, everyone, and - as we say in Hungarian- throw me to the chipmunks, for me it is so ... nothingspecial (while darn expensive, though I would be the first to say, that everyone charges for their stuff as they want and knitting - and all crafts- should be valued), and if people buy it, so good for her. 

This is not the fist time something extremely simple got popular, back then it was the Baktus shawl, but that, at least had the redeeming quality of being free (if I know it well. It was so simple, I've never knitted it.)

At the same time, I simply do not understand, why people jumped on it so much, but, I might be getting too old for this game. For giving it as a present... On one hand, I only give handmade, especially handknitted present to anyone, if I am 300% sure that it will be valued by the recepient, and if I give something, for this reason, I will take it seriously. This scarf is such a little nothing, for a gift I think it as a get-away-with-as-little-effort-as-possible, giving it a gosh-lets-throw-something-together-because-I-must feel.

On the top of it, I usually stay away from patterns-everybody-knits, (or VERY popular ones), with only a few exception (like I did knit a few Clapotis back in its days), but then I need to have something extra in the design. 

In the Sophie scarf, for me at least, there is NONE.
